High Adherence
Reinforcing Strips
The reinforcing strips used by The Reinforced Earth Company are
S355JR steel strips with a minimum ultimate tensile strength (UTS)
of 510N/mm2, complying with the requirements of BS EN
10025. Hot-dip galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461.
The strips have a ribbed profile which enhances the adherence of the
strip when placed within a compacted granular fill. The apparent
coefficient of friction m*,
between the fill and the strip is usually estimated from the current
BBA Certificate No. 99/R106.
Taking account of the sacrificial thickness, the manufacturing
tolerances and partial safety factors, the design strength of each
strip type is: 50mm x
4mm (HA) 37.1kN (main body)
25.9kN (connection) 45mm x 5mm (HAR)
46.7kN (main body) 46.7kN (connection)
These design capacities are referred to in the
Roads & Bridges Agrément Certificate No.99/R106, issued by the BBA
for structures designed to BD70/03.
